MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS OF TRENTON LIBRARY
HEATING, VENTILATING & AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM:
The heating ventilating and air conditioning system for the facility is handled with two Trane central station air handlers with a combined air flow of 26,700 CFM and 76 tons combined refrigeration cooling. The Air Handlers are provided with a combined pre-heat capability of 213,000 BTUH (British Thermal Unit) of hydronic pre-heat coils. The space temperature of the facility is handled by 21 VAV (Variable Air Volume) terminal units with reheat coils. Fin-tube hydronic radiation is provided along the perimeter walls where large glass windows are present. The temperature control of the fin-tube radiation is interlocked with the VAV units and the associated reheat coils. The hydronic heating for the facility is generated by two Lochinvar boilers of 797,000 BTUH output each.
POWER:
The facility is handled by a 1200 AMP, 208 volt three phase, 4 wire switch board. The power and lighting for the facility is being handled by two lighting panels and three power panels located in the Electrical Room.
LIGHTING:
The lighting system for the majority of the open space is handled with Direct/Indirect lighting through oval, 9'-0" linear "Forum" light fixtures. The major part of the lighting around the Circulation Desk is handled with two levels of cove indirect lighting. At each elevation, staggered strip fluorescent fixtures are located hidden within the cove. The cove lighting is enhanced with several 6" round compact fluorescent fixtures in each of the two horizontal drop ceiling areas. There is a skylight dome at the center peak of the circulation area. Below the skylight, at about 13 feet above the finished floor, a 45"diameter opal acrylic bowl "Advent" light fixture is suspended from columns with aircraft cables. The fixtures has 39 compact fluorescent lamps. This, along with a second 45" diameter Advent fixture located above the main entrance, emphasizes the main entrance and the circulation desk area.
DATA AND COMMUNICATION:
The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art data and communication capability, with the ability of network internet connections. The communication cables are distributed through an underfloor grid "walker duct" system, linking several hubs within the facility to a central entrance and exit point.
